Walkers and Runners Lace Up to Raise Money and Awareness for Make-A-Wish
May 4, 2009 - Ottawa, Ontario
Event Gets Underway at 8:30am, May 9th, 2009, in Ottawa’s Vincent Massey Park
Vincent Massey Park is the place to be on Saturday May 9th, 2009. Make-A-Wish® Eastern Ontario and Innovapost, an Ottawa-based provider of IT solutions and services, are inviting families, walkers and runners to come down and take part in the second annual ‘Innovapost Walk/Run for Wishes’.
The event offers a day of fun for families, beginners and competitive runners alike. Proceeds will go to granting wishes to create hope and happiness for children with life-threatening illnesses. Participants can choose to walk or run a 1km, 5km or 10km route. There will also be activities for children and families including musical guests, prizes and a picnic during the event.
“Last year the proceeds from the Walk/Run for Wishes enabled us to grant two wishes with only 40 registered runners,” said Mike Wlotzki, Executive Director of Make-A-Wish® Eastern Ontario. “This year we already have over 300 people registered. It will be incredible to see how many wishes we can grant with that kind of support.”
In 2008, Innovapost identified ‘Children & Families in Need’ as the company cause, and Make-A-Wish® Eastern Ontario as one the charities, which they strongly support.
“Together with our event sponsors, Innovapost is delighted to support this important event again this year,” said Dave Allum, Senior Vice President of Innovapost. “Our goal is to raise enough funds to grant the wishes of three local children with life threatening medical conditions.”
The Innovapost Walk/Run for Wishes is one of the largest fundraising events for Make-A-Wish® Eastern Ontario. Since 2002 Innovapost has raised over $1.3 million for various charities throughout Ottawa, Mississauga and Toronto where their 800 employees live and work.
“I am thrilled to be part of a company that supports Make-A-Wish,” said Innovapost’s Mary Durning, event organizer and member of the company’s Consulting Services team. “I personally have been able to visit the children and families our company has helped—it has truly been a magical experience.”
